O pokojných nociach

Calm Nights is one guide about one thing: how baby sleep works, and how to keep it as safe as it can be. It is written in English for parents across the EU.

Why it exists

The advice available to a tired parent at 3 a.m. is contradictory, and much of it is trying to sell something. Public health organisations publish good guidance, but it is spread across dozens of pages, written for a general audience, and almost impossible to hold in your head when you have not slept properly in eleven weeks.

Calm Nights takes that guidance and turns it into something you can read in an evening and use on a bad night. Safer sleep comes first, because it is the one area where the details genuinely change the risk. Then what is normal, what helps, and what to do when nothing does.

What we will not do

  • We will not promise your baby will sleep through the night. No honest guide can. Anything that does is selling you something.
  • We will not invent numbers. Where the published guidance gives a range, we give the range. Where it gives none — tog charts are the clearest example — we say so and explain why the ones you see online exist.
  • We will not claim an endorsement we do not have. The guide draws on published guidance from the NHS, The Lullaby Trust, Basis and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and points readers in Ireland to the HSE. Every source is listed on the last page so you can check it yourself. None of those organisations has reviewed or endorsed this guide.
  • We will not pretend to be a doctor. This is general information. Your midwife, child health nurse, GP or paediatrician knows your baby. We do not.

How it is kept current

Safer sleep guidance is reviewed over time and can differ between countries. The guide carries the date it was last reviewed, and if the underlying guidance changes we update the file and send the new version to everyone who has bought it, at no cost.

Who is behind it

Calm Nights is a small independent publisher based in the EU. There is no team of doctors and we do not claim one. What we do is read the primary guidance carefully, write it out clearly, and say plainly where every piece of it came from.
